Phylotype-level characterization of complex Lactobacilli communities using a high-throughput, high-resolution phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetase (pheS) gene amplicon sequencing approach

This study evaluated the suitability of the pheS gene for high-resolution community structure analysis of Lactobacilli (specifically the Lactobacillus sensu lato group) in host-associated, environmental or food-related samples. This study provides a comprehensive database and taxonomic framework for taxonomic assignment of Lactobacilli and fine-scale community structure analysis, relevant for the food, feed, and biomedical industries.
