Functional genomics of an oxygen minimum zone in the mesopelagic equatorial Pacific. Metzyme

Our goal is to examine the genetic potential for different nitrogen cycling processes across a biogeochemical gradient spanning the fringes of an oxygen minimum zone and a major iron-limited region of the ocean. We propose to use metagenomics to characterize the organisms and genes involved in nitrogen cycling, particularly nitrification, along a north-south transect in the equatorial Pacific.
