Nitrification and denitrification potential of marsh soils, Terrebonne Bay (LA), 2013-2014

We measured nitrification potential and denitrification potential in four marshes in Terrebonne Bay every 2 to 3 months beginning in March 2013 and continuing through April 2014. Two of the sites were oiled following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and the remaining two sites were unoiled. At each site we sampled along a 20-m transect from the marsh edge collecting soil cores at 5-m intervals (5, 10, 15, and 20 m). In addition to nitrification and denitrification, we measured the abundances of ammonia-oxidizing archaea, ammonia-oxidizing bacteria, denitrification bacteria, and a variety of soil properties.本研究于2013年3月至2014年4月期间，每隔2至3个月对特雷邦湾（Terrebonne Bay）的4处沼泽湿地开展硝化潜势（nitrification potential）与反硝化潜势（denitrification potential）测定。其中2处采样点在2010年深水地平线（Deepwater Horizon）原油泄漏事件后遭受溢油污染，剩余2处采样点未受溢油影响。在每个采样点，我们从沼泽边缘开始沿20米样带采样，以5米为间隔（分别于5、10、15和20米处采集土壤岩芯）。除硝化与反硝化相关指标外，本研究还测定了氨氧化古菌（ammonia-oxidizing archaea）、氨氧化细菌（ammonia-oxidizing bacteria）、反硝化细菌（denitrification bacteria）的丰度，以及多种土壤理化性质。
