Here, we describe a previously unidentified opportunistic human pathogen discovered following a biopsy culture from chronic osteomyelitis. The bone biopsies grew Gram-negative rods not identified by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene suggested it belongs to the family Erwiniaceae but could not specify a species. Whole genome sequencing revealed genetic relatedness to several Pantoea species without identifying a known species. We suggest this bacterium represents a new Pantoea species and an opportunistic human pathogen.
