This study aims to identify the biological processes and regulatory networks that are involved in breadfruit dwarfing induced by dwrfing rootstocks. Comparative transcriptomic analysis from scion stems growing on marang rootstocks and those on self-graft was performed to identify underlying molecular changes and gene expression related to stem elongation growth. To better characterize differential gene expression associated with rootstock response, scion stem transcriptome was de novo assembled using RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) and differential expression associated with stem growth was examined. The work provides insight into the molecular mechanism underlying breadfruit dwarfing through interspecific rootstocks, also generates a valuable gene resource for future functional studies in dwarfism of the species.
