Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA) Hydrometeorological Data

The LBA project is the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia. The LBA-HydroNet V1.0 is the prototype version of a regional hydrometeorological data bank to support water sciences and water resource assessment in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean, using joint pan-American scientific and monitoring station information resources.The Willmott, Matsuura and Legates (v2.01) (Willmott and Matsuura, 1995) database contains long term monthly averages, for 1950 to 1996, of total precipitation, for the terrestrial surface of South America, gridded at 0.5 degree longitude/latitude resolution. Derived from Legates and Willmott (1990) station records. There are several other conributors to this databank. The data are sometimes at .5x.5 deg resolution and sometimes at .1x.1 resolution, and time series data range varies depend on the variable. Variables avail- able in LBA-HydroNet include mean monthly and time series data for percent cloud cover, air temperature mean, maximums and minimums, precipitation and vapor pressure.
