Lake Baikal summer metagenomes from 5, 20, 300, 390, 1250 and 1350 m of depth

Lake Baikal represents the world s deepest (1637 m) and largest volume of fresh liquid water (23,000 km3). This study describes the viral and microbial communities of the Lake on the summer period using high throughput sequencing. Water samples from four horizons (5 , 20, 1250 and 1350 m) were taken on 12-13July 2018 at the station St3-Ver18-02 R-1 (51,780108 N 104,91655 E), located 8 km from the Listvyanka settlement. Additionally, two water samples (300 and 390 m) were taken on 19 July 2018 from St4-Ver18-02 (51,97525 N 105,34712 E) from methane seep Stupa. Samples were collected with the SBE 32 Carousel Water Sampler from aboard the RV Vereshchagin.
