Oxazolidinones are last-line therapies for multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacterial infections. This project aimed to investigate the spread of oxazolidinone resistance in Enterococcus faecalis isolates in animal agriculture settings. Genomic DNA of different E. faecalis sequence type backgrounds isolated from rectal swabs collected from healthy piglets in different states of Brazil was sequenced on an Illumina MiSeq instrument, and analysed for the presence of resistances associated with conjugative and integrative elements, phages, and CRISPR-Cas defenses.
