Animal embryos pass through a period during which development is handed by maternally provided gene products to zygotic gene products. Here we carried out RNA sequencing analysis to characterize egg and larval transcriptomes in the appendicularian, Oikopleura dioica, a planktonic chordate, which is characterized by rapid development and short life cycle of 5 days, using Japanese population. Live wild specimens were collected at Sakoshi Bay and Tossaki port in Hyogo, Japan
