Neotropical Snakes Ion Channels Target-Sequencing

This study aims to unveil the nuanced interplay between chemical defense and species adaptation in the tropics. We focused on tropical predator-prey interactions involving multiple toxin-secreting frogs and snake predators. We collected tissue samples from 40 snakes from different locations across Colombia. We conducted a target enrichment and Illumina sequencing to obtain the complete sequence of 74 genes from 14 gene families involved in neurological functions, and therefore putatively involved in toxin resistance, and two nuclear genes commonly used in phylogenetic reconstruction (RAG2 and c-mos).
