A device (1) for forming 3D bodies (100)， in particular pieces of furniture， by additive material application. In particular， the device has a support (2)， on which the volume body (100) is formed， an application unit (4)， for building up the 3D body (100) on the support (2) by additive application of material， and a tool carrier (3) with a tool holder (8)， in which the application unit (4) is mounted. The tool carrier (3) is in this case designed in such a way that the application unit (4) mounted in the tool holder (8) can be aligned in five directions by moving the tool holder (8) with respect to the support (2).
