Chausses are stockings that were worn by both men and women in Medieval Europe. Mid-14b. Men's chausses are mostly attached to a belt at the waist (which is held by the bre), although the first purpuens, derived from cottardi, are already beginning to appear – narrow short jackets, to the lower edge of which chausses are tied.
