Studies of microbial communities in saline ecosystems contribute to our understanding of extreme environments ecology. However, little is known about the bacterial community composition and diversity in saline soils. To reveal which environmental factors drive the bacterial communities and how the communities are distributed in saline soils, we collected soil samples with a wide range of chemical gradients across the hypersaline lake Ebinur shoreline in northwest China, and the soil bacterial community compositions were estimated using bar-coded pyrosequencing.
