HUMAN-ELEPHANT CONFLICT: TEMPORAL CHANGES AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS IN THE TROPICAL FOREST OF SOUTHERN INDIA

Human-elephant conflict data were collected from 14 villages located in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve from Nov-2006 to Mar-2008. The locations of crop-raiding incidences were obtained using the GPS (Garmin e-trex). All the crop fields in a village with the owner of the land, land area, crop protection method, crops, planting months, fruit trees, and nearest water resources available within the village were located. The area of cultivation, the stage of the crop, and the proportion of damage were assessed quantitatively. The crop protection method, extent, and elephant damage were assessed.

本数据集的人象冲突数据采集于2006年11月至2008年3月，采集区域为穆杜马莱老虎保护区（Mudumalai Tiger Reserve）内的14个村落。研究人员借助全球定位系统（GPS，Garmin e-trex型号）获取了大象盗食作物事件的发生位置，并对每个村落内的全部农田完成定位，同时记录了各农田的土地所有者、土地面积、作物防护措施、种植作物种类、播种月份、果树分布以及村落内可获取的最近水源信息。此外，研究人员对耕作面积、作物生长阶段以及受损比例开展了量化评估，并对作物防护措施、破坏范围与大象造成的损害程度进行了评估。
