NRS-19132 | Register of Returned Soldiers Special Holding Leases [Corowa Lands Office]

This register contains a summary record of all Returned Soldiers Special Holdings in the Land District of Corowa, kept by the Corowa Lands Office.This Special Holding was introduced in 1916, under the Returned Soldiers Settlement Act, 1916, to facilitate the placing of returned soldiers on the land. The holdings were usually made available as perpetual leases. The settler was required to reside on the holding for the first five years, and a perpetual lease grant could be issued. A right to purchase was granted in 1917. The purchase price was the capital value of the land as determined by the Local Land Board at the date of application to purchase.The register records information such as the number of the application, the name and address of the applicant, date of application and time of receipt, description of the land, and the purpose for which the land is required. Also a deposit and survey fee, the annual rent and the gazetted number of the lease.
