On October 14th and October 21st, observations of insect abundance and plant richness were collected and recorded at the Grassland East of Stong College. The first day the temperature was about 18°C and sunny whereas the second day was windy and cloudy with a temperature of 5°C. Each day a measuring tape of 60m was laid down from the pond to the outer area of the grassland. The 60m distance was divided evenly (20m) into three parts; closest to the pond, midway to the pond, and farthest away from the pond. Sweep nets were used to count the abundance of insects within each area and quadrats were used to record the average plant richness in each area. Ten random samples were collected in each of the specific areas on the 10 different transecting lines throughout the grassland area for each day. This gave a total of 20 samples for the experiment.

本实验于10月14日与10月21日,在斯壮学院(Stong College)东侧草原开展昆虫丰度与植物物种丰富度的观测采集与记录工作。首日气温约18℃,天气晴朗;次日气温5℃,伴有大风且为阴天。每日均从池塘至草原外围铺设一条60米的卷尺作为样带,将60米的样带均分为三段,每段长20米,分别为近池塘区、池塘半程区以及远池塘区。采用扫网法对各区段的昆虫丰度进行计数,同时使用样方(quadrat)记录各区段的植物平均物种丰富度。每日在草原范围内的10条不同样带上的各特定区段内采集10个随机样本,本实验总计获得20个样本。
