Biomethanization of CO2 via ex-situ application

In recent years several studies investigated a potential of biogas upgrading to high quality biomethane using biological biomethanization of CO2 approach. Resulting biomethane can be used as a substitute of a natural gas in the National Grid or serve as a gaseous biofuel for transportation. In this study, eight lab scale reactors were inoculated with waste water treatment plant sludge and acclimatised for a period of time prior H2 injection. The conversion rate of hydrogen was monitored to determine kinetics rate. Samples were also collected to establish the microbial community structure in response to hydrogen injection using metagenomic analysis.
