Methane concentrations in headspace gas prepared from shallow sediment core GeoB22002-2 collected with a multicorer off South Georgia, Southern Ocean, R/V METEOR cruise M134/1@en

Shallow sediment cores were collected with a MultiCorer at locations on the shelf and slope of South Georgia during cruise M134/1 with R/V METEOR in 2017. In order to determine distributions of methane and characterize biogeochemical zonations in the sediment, 3 mL of the sediment was removed from the cores at defined depths using cut-off syringes and transferred to 20 mL glass vials filled with 5 ml NaOH solution to generate a 12 mL headspace gas volume. The headspace gas samples were analyzed for their methane concentrations by use of a gas chromatograph equipped with a capillary column and a flame ionization detector.2017年，科考船R/V METEOR执行M134/1航次期间，使用多管采样器（MultiCorer）在南乔治亚岛陆架与陆坡区域采集了浅层沉积物岩芯。为探明沉积物中甲烷的分布特征并表征其生物地球化学分带性，研究人员使用截短注射器在预设深度从岩芯中采集3毫升沉积物样品，转移至装有5毫升氢氧化钠（NaOH）溶液的20毫升玻璃顶空瓶中，以形成12毫升顶空气体空间。随后采用配备毛细管柱与火焰离子化检测器的气相色谱仪，对顶空气体样品中的甲烷浓度进行分析测定。
