Frequenta electrotherapy device

The Frequenta apparatus was used for electrotherapy, i.e. performing a medicinal massage with a high frequency current at between 100 and 250V. In the device presented here the high voltage generator was connected to a Tesla transformer built into a handle, which serves as the grip for the replaceable electrode of glass. The electrodes were filled with an inert gas, usually neon or argon. In operation, the gas shone violet, blue or pink. The user massaged the skin with the electrode, causing a flow of high frequency alternating current through the body. When the electrode was held close to the skin the patient felt tingling, and on contact – warmth. In the inter-war period, when more and more households had access to electricity, the popularity of electrotherapy devices increased.
