Total Primary Energy Supply - Geothermal (IEA)

Total primary energy supply (TPES) is made up of production + imports - exports - international marine bunkers +/- stock changes. Geothermal includes production of geothermal for electricity generation and primary energy used directly by end-users (e.g. geothermal heating of buildings and greenhouses). For electricity generation, unless the actual efficiency of the geothermal process is known, the quantity of geothermal energy entering electricity generation is inferred from the electricity production at geothermal plants assuming an average thermal efficiency of 10 per cent. A KTOE is defined as 41.868 TJ (Terajoules) or 11.630 GWh (Gigawatt-Hour).
