The Survey department conducted surveys for most areas of the Department of Public Works and Services. Some of the areas surveyed would have been schools, hospitals, prisons, water supplies, sewerage, dams etc. In addition hydro surveys were undertaken of coast, rivers, jetties. These books contain lists of measurements taken and rough sketches made of boundary surveys of foreshores, projects and individual landholdings, etc.Reference is occasionally made to the accompanying series Stadia books, Tidal Observations and Trigonometrical, Telemeter Book, Tacheometer Book and Cross Level Book Field books.
