Laguna Genealogies: A Digital Edition of Parsons 1923

A verified digital transcription of the genealogical plates published with Elsie Clews Parsons, “Laguna Genealogies”, Anthropological Papers of the American Museum of Natural History, vol. 19, pt. 5 (1923), pp. 133–292. Table 1, “Genealogy I” records 104 individuals across five generations, with 27 marriages and 80 parent–child links. Table 4, “Genealogy IV” records 73 individuals across four generations, with 14 marriages and 58 parent–child links. Tables 2 and 3 await scans. The plates are transcribed character by character, including the Americanist phonetic diacritics, and encoded as a normalised persons / unions / children schema. Nothing is corrected, normalised or filled in: misprints are reproduced and annotated rather than silently fixed, and where Parsons recorded no name the entry stays blank. Because clan descent at Laguna is matrilineal, every child's clan must equal its mother's — an independent structural check on every bracket reading, which all recorded marriages pass. The edition is published as a browsable chart at pueblogenealogy.github.io, where every individual has a stable anchor and the layout reproduces the 1923 foldout's column grid.
