In the present study, different types of commercially available graphene quantum dots (GQDs were investigated to understand their spectroscopic properties. Their morphological and size analyse were also performed. Their mechanism of action in radical photopolymerization processes was evaluated. The obtained materials proved to be useful in developing efficient photoinitiating systems for 3D printing applications. In addition, the cytotoxicity of GQDs was studied and their effects on living cells were investigated. We demonstrated that GQDs not only can act as efficient photoinitiators, but as constituents of hydrogels express very low toxicity and may interact with cells. The latter creates the possibility of studying them in the future as useful modern biosensors.
