Improving Patient-centred Public Healthcare

In Victoria, there were new policies introduced to improve patient-centred care delivery. The thesis explores the policy implementation and healthcare professionals’ patient-centred care practices. A behavioural lens was used to examine the factors that can change healthcare professionals’ behaviours. Besides time and resource constraints and the lack of necessary skills, factors such as social support from their peers, views on their professional role and consequences were identified to influence healthcare professionals’ delivery of patient-centred care. The findings inform future intervention designs to improve patient-centred care, bridging the gap between policy and practice.
