Temperature profiles from MBT casts from the HUMBOLDT from Ocean Weather Station D (OWS-D) in the North Atlantic Ocean from 12 October 1964 to 03 November 1964 (NODC Accession 6400076)

Bathythermograph data were collected from the HUMBOLDT within a 1-mile radius of Ocean Weather Station D (4400N 04100W) and in transit. Data were collected by the United States Coast Guard from 12 October 1964 to 03 November 1964. The platform was equipped and staffed to observe weather and sea conditions. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. Full format description is available from NODC at www.nodc.noaa.gov/General/NODC-Archive/bt.html.

The UBT file format is used for temperature-depth profile data obtained using the mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) instrument. The maximum depth of MBT observations is approximately 285 m. Therefore, MBT data are useful only in studying the thermal structure of the upper layers of the ocean. Cruise information, date, position, and time are reported for each observation. The data record comprises pairs of temperature-depth values. Temperature data in this file are recorded at uniform 5 m depth intervals.

UBT文件格式适用于通过机械海洋测温剖面仪（mechanical bathythermograph, MBT）获取的温深剖面数据。机械海洋测温剖面仪观测的最大深度约为285米，因此该类数据仅可用于研究海洋上层水体的热结构特征。每条观测记录均包含航次信息、观测日期、位置及时间。数据记录由温深数值对组成，本文件中的温度数据以5米为均匀深度间隔进行存储记录。
