THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING ENGLISH TERMINOLOGY: CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS IN MODERN LANGUAGE EDUCATION

The rapid development of science, technology, and professional communication has significantly increased the demand for effective teaching of English terminology in higher education. Terminological competence plays a crucial role in learners’ academic success and professional communication, particularly in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) contexts. This article explores the importance of teaching English terminology, identifies key challenges encountered by learners and instructors, and proposes pedagogical solutions grounded in contemporary language teaching theories. Drawing on lexical competence theory, communicative language teaching, and task-based instruction, the study employs a mixed-methods approach including theoretical analysis, classroom observation, and pedagogical experimentation with university students. The findings reveal that systematic, context-based, and interdisciplinary terminology instruction enhances learners’ comprehension, retention, and practical application of specialized vocabulary. Diagrammatic and tabular analyses illustrate the relationship between teaching strategies, cognitive processes, and learning outcomes. The study concludes that integrating terminology instruction into communicative and task-based frameworks is essential for developing students’ academic and professional language competence.
