DECIDING HOW TO USE THESE PROPERLY IN A FITTING PROGRAM IS NOT STRAIGHTFORWARD,PARTICULARLY SINCE (ACCORDING TO MARTIN72T AND THRESHER74) THE SYSTEMATIC ERRORS TEND TO BE SOMEWHAT CORRELATED BETWEEN DIFFERENT BINS. HOWEVER,THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE STATISTICAL AND SYSTEMATIC ERROR IN A SINGLE BIN IS NOT LARGE,THE FIRST COMING MAINLY FROM EVENT COUNTING AND THE SECOND MAINLY FROM BACKGROUND ESTIMATION (SEE MARTIN72T). THE NE IS RECORDED AS +/-6 PCT OVERALL AND +/-2 PCT RESIDUAL AT EACH MOMENTUM. THIS IS AN OVERSIMPLIFICATION AS DATA WERE TAKEN SIMULTANEOUSLY AT PAIRS OF MOMENTA SEPARATED BY ABOUT 1.9 PCT. THE RESIDUAL NE OF SUCH A PAIR IS 2 PCT,BUT THE NORMALIZATIONS FOR THE TWO MEMBERS OF THE PAIR ARE 100 PCT CORRELATED. THE MARTIN75 DATA ARE NOT THE SAME AS THE SLEEMAN74 DATA. /// COMMENTS ON MODIFICATIONS TO LOVELACE71 COMPILATION BY KELLY -- LOVELACE71 VERSION COMES FROM TWO PRELIMINARY VERSIONS OF THE DATA EARLIER THAN MARTIN72 (LOVELACE71IDS=BROWN70 AND SLEEMA71). J. 塞舍尔,私人通信(private communication),1974年] —— SLEEMAN74数据磁带的每个数据点均记录了统计误差与系统误差两类误差。在拟合程序中合理处理这两类误差并非易事,尤其根据MARTIN72T与THRESHER74的描述,不同数据分箱(bin)的系统误差往往存在一定相关性。但单个数据分箱内统计误差与系统误差的相关性较弱:前者主要源于事件计数,后者则主要来自本底估计(详见MARTIN72T)。根据塞舍尔74的建议,我们对每个数据分箱的统计与系统误差进行了正交合成(quadrature,即平方和开方的误差合成方式),且未考虑不同数据分箱间的相关性。
MARTIN74 [J. F. 马丁,RL-74-016,1974年] —— MARTIN75的预印本版本,与MARTIN75内容不完全一致。
MARTIN75 [J. F. 马丁,NP B89, 253(1975)] —— 68个动量点的π⁺-质子(π⁺P)极化相互作用实验数据,动量范围为603至2651兆电子伏特每光速(MeV/c)。实验在尼姆罗德加速器(NIMROD)上开展,采用LMN靶、闪烁计数器描迹仪(scintillation counter hodoscope)与切伦科夫计数器(Cherenkov counter)以解决运动学歧义并压低本底。整体归一化误差记为±6%,每个动量点的残差归一化误差为±2%。但这一描述存在过度简化之处:实验同时采集了间隔约1.9%的动量对数据,此类动量对的残差归一化误差为2%,但该对中两个数据集的归一化完全相关。MARTIN75数据集与SLEEMAN74数据集并不相同。
关于凯利对LOVELACE71汇编的修改说明 —— LOVELACE71版本的数据来自MARTIN72之前的两个预发布数据集(LOVELACE71标识对应BROWN70与SLEEMA71),二者存在诸多显著差异。实验采用极化靶,于卢瑟福实验室开展。
