Phytophageous Insect List, Tierberg Karoo Research Centre

The list is one of the spreadsheet contained in the file “INVERT LIST”. Data contains a list of 38 phytophagous insect species collected on Tripteris (Osteospermum) sinuatum and Pteronia pallens at Tierberg Karoo Research Centre (33010`S, 27017`E) in the Prince Albert district of the southern Karoo in winter and spring months from 1987-1992. The objective of the collection was to compare insect communities on a plant that is palatable to mammals (Tripteris sinuata) with one that is toxic to most mammals (Pteronia pallens). Plant parts on which insects were collected are classified as leaf, stem, flower, or seed.
