Images from an Archaeological Trench Evaluation on the Land at Country Way, Ilton, Somerset, March 2024

This collection comprises images from an archaeological trench evaluation on the land at Country Way, Ilton, Somerset. This work was undertaken by AC Archaeology in March 2024. No evidence for the historic buildings or ponds recorded on historic maps was uncovered. The earliest feature dated to the Roman period (AD 43-150). The evaluation also revealed a medieval ditch, likely infilled during the 12th or 13th century and related to land division around the settlement of Ilton. All of the features are considered to be of low significance, with limited potential for further understanding the history and development of the Roman and medieval landscapes of and around Ilton.
