Dataset associated with the analysis of surface thermal anomalies, population exposure and stakeholder insights across Nigerian cities

This dataset records how the surface temperatures of 56 Nigerian cities warm, where that warming is concentrated, how many people live in those places, and the perspectives of stakeholders gathered during a series of Workshops held in 2024. Everything has been aggregated into a single GeoPackage (.gpkg) with 17 layers, so there is one file to cite, download, and verify. The layers fall into six groups: zonation gives each city an urban core, a background reference area and a surrounding city region, together with its physiographic landscape type; long-term temperature covers annual and monthly land-surface temperature for 2006 - 2025 and the trend tests computed from it; persistent heat events catalogues every qualifying event of 2024 and flags the one carried into the event-scale analysis; hot and cold spots hold the detected anomaly polygons via Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) and their 50, 75 and 90 percent density contours; population exposure counts the residents inside each of those polygons; and lastly, stakeholder evidence holds pseudonymised perceptions and pseudonymised locations that residents marked on maps. A data dictionary that describes all 293 fields in this dataset has also been included.
