The organizers of the fourth Alaska Aquaculture Conference had two major objectives: (1) to provide basic information on aquaculture for profit (seaweeds, shellfish, and finfish) to Alaskans who are interested in starting an aquaculture business; and (2) to provide some information on the pros and cons of salmonid culture. The proceedings includes papers on the aquaculture of seaweeds, scallops, oysters, mussels, clams, and abalone, as well as sablefish and salmonids. Also included are papers on financing, investment, and setting up an aquaculture business. Topics covered in discussion papers are site selection, permitting, and the issue of private-for-profit salmon culture. Grant no. NA86AA-D-SG041
