MC1R_mice

It is well established that individuals who are red heads are more susceptible to melanoma development. Part of this susceptibility is believed to be due to their photosensitivity but it has also been suggested that mutations in MC1R, which are associated with the red hair phenotype, are in themselves oncogenic. Here we have sequenced tumours generated from mice carrying transgenes expressing MC1R variants. Our hope is to use these data to identify DNA signatures in these tumours and hence the underlying mechanisms of tumourigenesis in these mice.
