Comparison tool for rainwater management systems (SUDS, SUDS+ and SUDS-U)

This tool was developed as part of the AMAREX Project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany). The Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) included in the catalogue of measures developed within the AMAREX project were analyzed using a standardized modeling approach to allow for systematic comparison. For the cities of Berlin and Cologne, the required volumes and surface areas of the systems, as well as their impacts on the water budget – evaporation, infiltration, and direct runoff – were assessed under uniform standard conditions (2500 m² of roof area draining into the system; water use in SUDS-U systems for irrigation of standardized urban greenery with trees and grass). The tool enables targeted comparison and evaluation of the systems based on different objectives – such as water usage, heavy rainfall detention, evaporation, infiltration, or combinations thereof. The Excel file is free of macros.
