Section 47 of the Land Act 1865 allowed leases for up to thirty acres to be granted for 'novel industrial enterprises'. The section specifically mentions vineyards, oliveyards or mulberry or hop plantations or any "useful plant or industrial enterprise or process which was previously unknown or not generally known". No more than one hundred of these leases were to be granted in any year and the term was not to exceed thirty years. In the subsequent clause of the Act, the lessee had a pre-emptive right of purchase on the expiry of the lease or after five years at the price of one pound per acre.This register gives details of the leasee, type and purpose of the land and duration of the lease.Further information about these leases might be recorded in VPRS 1286 Register of Applications, Section 47, Land Act 1862 and the evaluation of the selected applications as recorded in VPRS 13017 Particulars of Gazetted Applications, Section 47, Land Act 1862. Each lease is given a number in VPRS 13018 consisting of a 'G'and a succeeding number. This number is a different one to that given in the related series, VPRS 1286 Register of Applications, Section 47, Land Act 1862 and VPRS 13017 Particulars of Gazetted Applications, Section 47, Land Act 1862. The Board Number given is the annual single number allocated the original application as shown in VPRS 1286/P Register of Applications, Section 47, Land Act 1862. Other details are the name of the lessee the number of the plan, the area, the locality giving details of the allotment and section, the parish and county, the rent and term of the lease and the general purposes and conditions of the lease.The terms "lease" and "leasees" have been used in this description despite the term "License Register Land Act 1862" appearing on the spine of the volume.
