This dataset is part of a multi-decadal monitoring program of butterflies across Northern California, USA. Butterflies have been monitored every two weeks during the flight season for different numbers of years depending on the site (the oldest site started in 1972 and the youngest sites started in 1988), with presence and absence of individual species noted at each visit (last year of observation in this dataset is 2020). <br> Columns in the dataset are as follows: 1) site_name. Name of location monitored. 2) visit_date. Date of site visit (year, month, day). 3) genus_species. Taxonomic name of butterfly. 4) pa. Presence (1) or absence (0) of a particular species on a particular day. 5) ordDate. Days since the first of the year (also known as ordinal date). 6) Year. Year of site visit. 7) Month. Month of site visit. 8) Observer. Initials of person recording data; mostly AMS, Arthur M Shapiro. <br>
