Experiment Data

This dataset is derived from the bachelor thesis project titled 'The Impact of Gestures on Language Learning: Implications for Online Learning Platforms'. The primary objective of this research was to investigate the influence of gestures on vocabulary learning outcomes in online learning environments. The study employed an online experiment conducted through the Qualtrics platform. A total of 40 participants took part in the study, divided into two groups: a control group that received instruction without gestures, and an experimental group that received instruction accompanied by gesture videos. For the experiment an artificial language "Vimmi" by Macedonia et al. (2011) was used and gesture videos were sourced from the Gesture Video Corpus by Macedonia et al. (2021). The experiment involved measuring vocabulary learning outcomes through post-tests administered to both groups. The dataset includes the participants' demographic information, experimental condition assignment, and their performance on the vocabulary tests. Researchers interested in exploring the impact of gestures on vocabulary learning, particularly in online learning contexts, can use this dataset for further analysis and replication of the study. The dataset provides valuable insights into the potential effects of incorporating gestures as an instructional tool in online language learning platforms.
