Dysbiosis of the gastrointestinal tract is the principal cause of mortality and morbidity in horse breeding. Several factors affect the equine microbiota, such as management throughout life, diet, age, breed and even the geographical origin. Therefore, knowing the factors that modulate the gastrointestinal microbiome and have the potential for dysbiosis is fundamental in horse breeding system.
