Coronavirus: year-on-year change on seat capacity by region 2020-2021

In 2020, European airlines had a 58 percent loss in seat capacity. As a response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, since the beginning of 2020 more and more countries across the globe shut down borders, thus, cancelling all flights to contain the spread of the virus.
