Morfologia dei dialetti salentini: ricognizione critica dei morfi suffissali (accentogeni e non)

The article proposes a contribution to the study of the morphology of Sallentinian dialects with particular attention to derivational properties of (nominal and verbal) suffixes. The analysis is carried out with respect to the accentual properties of the morphemes that have been so important over the centuries in the transmission of oral literature (see e.g. the importance of rhymes in versification). Awareness of these relevant facts has given way today to representations that suffer from the underspecification imposed by traditional spelling. Unfortunately, orthographic forms obliterate important distinctions and may lead local authors (when not authoritative Italian morphologists) to often inconclusive mind-bending theories.
