Genome sequencing of tobramycin resistant Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolate MRSN58. Acinetobacter baumannii MRSN 58

Following a serious injury in Afghanistan, a U.S. service member received tobramycin for an infection by multidrug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. Within 4 days of treatment, resistance to the antibiotic was seen in successive A. baumannii isolated from the same anatomical locations, resulting in therapeutic failure. Isolates were characterized by whole genome mapping and sequencing to determine the mechanism of tobramycin resistance.
