Electron microprobe measurements of experimental and natural melt inclusions and their host olivines. The data are presented as weight percent concentration profiles that extend from the enclosing olivine on one side of an inclusion, across the inclusion center, and then back out into the olivine on the opposite side. Experiments were conducted in a 1 atmosphere gas-mixing furnace and consisted of a 24 hour homogenization stage followed by a controlled cooling stage. We also present data from unheated samples from three locations: (1) Papakolea, Hawaii (Mauna Loa), selected from the same cache of olivine beach sands that were used as the starting materials for the experiments, (2) Kilauea Iki, Hawaii, and (3) the shergottite Yamato 980459.
