Plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) refers to bacteria that colonize the rhizosphere and contribute to plant growth or stress tolerance. To further understand the symbiosis between plants and PGPRs, we performed high-throughput single colony isolation from rhizosphere soil combined with phenotypic analysis, and identified a bacteria (named PLR) that significantly promotes Arabidopsis lateral root formation. By 16S rDNA sequencing, PLR was identified as Serratia marcescens, but as a new, undefined sub-species.
