Whole genome shotgun (WGS) sequencing of the Anopheles gambiae genome. Anopheles gambiae str. PEST

The PEST strain of Anopheles gambiae was selected for complete genome sequencing due to the prior existence of BAC libraries and physical maps. With these reagents already in hand, the initial whole genome shotgun (WGS) sequence was assembled with the Celera assembler. The A. gambiae Genome Project is now coordinated by the International Anopheles Genome Executive Committee (IAGEC), which is responsible for subsequent amendments to the sequence and for related database management and coordination in consultation with The Anopheles Genome International Executive Board (AGIEB). The A. gambiae str. PEST whole genome shotgun (WGS) project has the project accession AAAB00000000. The current version of the project (01) has the accession number AAAB01000000, and consists of sequences AAAB01000001-AAAB01069724.
