The purpose of this study was to characterize the composition of a mixed microbial culture in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) operated under aerobic feast-famine conditions using fermented dairy manure as the feedstock. The SBR was operated under aerobic feast-famine conditions to enrich the mixed microbial culture for polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA; a type of bioplastic) producing bacteria. The enriched mixed microbial culture was used to inoculate fed-batch reactors for PHA production.
