Effect of psilocybin on visual cortex Overall design: Experimentation took place in the dark cycle. The mice were split into four experimental groups: mice placed into light (light group), mice kept in dark (dark group), mice treated with 5mg/kg psilocybin, followed by immediate placement in light (psilocybin-light group), mice treated with 5mg/kg psilocybin and kept in the dark (psilocybin-dark group). Two and a half hours after placement of mice in the light (or maintaining in dark), mice were sacrificed by decapitation, brains were isolated, and the visual cortex (V1) was removed and stored immediately on dry ice.
