Birch Green, Joseph Rochford Gardens, The Old Coach Road, Hertingfordbury, East Hertfordshire (OASIS ID: heritage1-180096)

In order to characterize the archaeological potential of a new development on land at Joseph Rochford Gardens, Old Coach Road, Birch Green, Herts, the Heritage Network was commissioned by Joseph Rochford Gardens Ltd to undertake archaeological monitoring of the planned groundworks.The site lies within Area of Archaeological Significance No. 228, which includes a series of cropmarks, a trackway and probable field boundaries. The groundworks consisted of a series of machine excavated augured holes evenly spaced in rows across the entire plot to accommodate concrete footings for the arched spine of a polytunnel. These revealed a large quantity of redeposited subsoil overlying an original topsoil. Any archaeological features, finds or deposits will be preserved in situ.

为评估赫特福德郡（Herts）伯奇格林旧马车道（Old Coach Road）约瑟夫·罗奇福德花园地块新开发项目的考古潜力，约瑟夫·罗奇福德花园有限公司委托遗产网络（Heritage Network）对规划中的土方工程开展考古监测。该地块隶属于第228号考古重要区域（Area of Archaeological Significance No.228），区域内包含一系列作物痕、一条古道及疑似田界遗迹。本次土方工程为机械螺旋钻掘的均匀成行分布钻孔，覆盖整个地块，用于为连栋拱型塑料温室（polytunnel）的弧形主龙骨搭建混凝土基座。本次钻探揭露了大量覆于原生表土层之上的再沉积底土层。所有考古遗迹、遗物及堆积均将原位保存。
