The Qaidam Basin is situated in the northwest of Qinghai Province and the northeast of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, mainly within the jurisdiction of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province. Covering an area of approximately 240,000 square kilometers, it is one of the three major inland basins in China and a closed giant intermountain graben basin. This dataset defines the geographical scope of the Qaidam Basin, and is primarily applied to cartography and study area cropping.
