In maize, there are reports of difference in recombination in chromosomal regions based on the sex of the cross. Yet, these differences in maize have remained unexplained. With the availability of the maize genome sequence in B73, Mo17 and extensive genome sequence of inbred CML228 there is an opportunity to begin analysis of differences in recombination and high resolution mapping of recombination between male and female meioses in the B73 X Mo17 hybrids and B73 X CML228 hybrids.
