RNA-seq analysis on Crocus sativus and other two Crocus species at two early developmental stages coincident with the beginning of crocins biosynthesis and accumulation. Pairwise comparison of unigene abundance among the samples identified potential regulatory transcription factors (TF) involved in crocins biosynthesis and accumulation. We found a total of 131 (up- and down-regulated) TFs representing a broad range of TF families in the analysed transcriptomes and by comparisons with the transcriptomes from the same developmental stages from other Crocus species a total of 11 TF were selected as candidate regulators controlling crocins biosynthesis and accumulation. Together, these results imply an important data representing TFs involved in crocins biosynthesis and accumulation that will help in exploring the core mechanisms involved in apocarotenoid regulation.
