THE EXPRESSION OF THE CONCEPT OF PRAISE IN ENGLISH COMMUNICATIVE CULTURE: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
收藏资源简介:
This article explores the linguistic and pragmatic representation of the concept of praise in English communicative culture through a comparative perspective. Praise is regarded as a significant communicative strategy that reflects cultural values, social norms, and interpersonal relations. The study analyzes how praise is expressed in English discourse and compares it with praise strategies observed in other linguistic and cultural contexts, particularly those characterized by collectivist communicative norms. The research employs discourse analysis, pragmalinguistic and sociolinguistic approaches, as well as a review of relevant scholarly literature. The findings demonstrate that praise in English communication is often characterized by indirectness, mitigation, and individual-oriented evaluation, which contrasts with more explicit or hierarchical forms of praise found in other cultures. The article contributes to intercultural pragmatics and communicative linguistics by highlighting the cultural specificity of praise and its role in successful communication.
